Start It UP

Hi everyone! Welcome to another great year with the UP Anime Manga Enthusiasts. We hope to see all of you at our upcoming events.

UPDATES:

  • Due to the threat of the A H1N1 virus (lovingly called "Ahini" by AME members), the start of classes was bumped to the 16th of June. Even so, for those interested students in UP Diliman, we will still be having our scheduled Application period around the second week of July. We hope to see you there!
  • Rumors have been circulating around campus that Freshmen are not allowed to join/apply for organizations, fraternities, sororities and the like. This issue was cleared up during a University Student Council (USC) meeting held last Friday, June 19 2009. As the new Student Code, which holds the proposition stated above (and many like it), is yet to be properly deliberated on and approved, the current rules are still active. Meaning, as of this posting, Freshmen are still ALLOWED TO JOIN/APPLY FOR whichever organization he/she pleases.
  • UPAME is currently selling premiere tickets for the upcoming movie TRANSFORMERS 2: Revenge of the Fallen, showing on June 24, 2009 at SM City North Edsa, Cinema 7. We will also be selling premiere tickets for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, details to follow.

In its most literal form, Harajuku is a place. Most specifically, the area around Harajuku Station on the Yamanote train line in Tokyo, Japan. But Harajuku isn't just a place, it is the fashion district of Japan.

Though it had only become mainstream to other countries recently (with much help from Gwen Stefani’s all-Japanese back-up dancers called the Harajuku Girls, and the singer is also a self-confessed Harajuku fan), Harajuku had been the place to seek in order to know about the latest in Japanese fashion.

This place, which looks like an ordinary train station on weekdays, transforms into a tourist paradise wherein all types of fashion are “modeled” by real people--goth, lolita, cosplayers, ganguro-- all that and more can be seen at Harajuku. This aspect of Harajuku--fashion--is what UP AME wants to emulate this year. But Harajuku isn’t just about fashion--it celebrates individuals’ uniqueness and breaks down boundaries.

By picking the Harajuku theme, we wish to capture and celebrate the self-expression fostered at the Harajuku Station here in the Philippines, and enjoy the experience with our patrons.
